I never recapped my ‘favorite’ articles for the year from the site. Enjoy a review of what I think is the best of DQYDJ for 2009!
- “Exotic Investing: Master Limited Partnerships” – A very highly searched topic; apparently you folks are a bit confused as to how MLPs work. I hope this post clarified a few misconceptions for you!
- “Does Increasing Tax Rates Increase Revenues?” – Not always, and here’s why. A multiple part article.
- “Taking Control of Your Giving” – How to use Charity Navigator to maximize your charity. Definitely a good article, in hindsight.
- “A Modest Proposal: More Gas Taxes” – back when people cared about cars on the road. Am I soft around the edges, advocating behavioral taxes? Maybe, but only when combined with income tax breaks…
- “Milton Friedman’s Permanent Income Hypothesis” – We’ll have to get Cameron writing again. I’ll see what I can do!
And here’s some of the favorite posts from other blogs for the week. Definitely read them, and subscribe to their stuff, since they put out some quality articles!
- “2009: A Year of Teenage Employment Infamy” – I’ve touched on minimum wage laws here, but Ironman keeps pounding on the evidence of teenage job loss. A great article, and an interesting site all over.
- “Dogs of the Dow Stock Trade is Dead – Don’t Fall for the Hype” – Yeah, and realize that when trades like this become common knowledge, their outperformance suffers. Let’s see how that January effect plays out, shall we?
- “The ‘Move Your Money’ Movement” – J Money lays out the issues – move your money from the big banks? I heartily agree, but for perhaps more selfish reasons- you can find better yields elsewhere!
- “Watching Less TV Will Not Make You Rich” – Frank from Bad Money Advice looks at the absurdity of the argument. Amen to that. But, can it kill you? Encore! Sidenote: what’s up with all these TV studies? Is it somehow linked to the NFL playoffs?
- “My Store-Brand vs. Name-Brand Blind Taste-Test Experiment #2” – Len is breaking new ground: getting his dog to review food and setting records for hyphenated words in an article title. Go read this post!
