Spotlight on Giving in the U.S.

Posted by PKamp3 On December - 14 - 2009

It goes with the season!  With every ring of the Salvation Army bell outside of your favorite big box retailer or supermarket, we are reminded of the true meaning of the season (whether Christmas is your deal or not)- thinking of others.  What better time than December to highlight some fast facts about charitable giving in the United States?

Mint.com Charity Posting

Far be it for me to redo an awesome post on the matter!  Mint.com’s blog recently featured a very nice infographic designed by the site WallStats.com.  In it you can see charitable totals by type, demographic, and whatever other category you are looking for.  Without further ado:

Some Cold Hard Numbers

That was a fun diversion.  How about a hard link to back up some of the claims higher on the list?  The Charity Aid Foundation has some info for you to chew on, check it out (numbers from 2006).  So yes, the United States does donate more than twice as much, as a proportion of GDP, than the next highest country (the United Kingdom, .73% of GDP vs. 1.70% of GDP).

It’s good to be number one!  What do you think?
