A picture of a ton of snow on a deck.

Nemo’s Wrath

There’s your moment of zen – my parents sent me that picture of their deck this morning after Nemo dumped a ton of snow on it.  New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Maine, and Eastern Massachusetts and New Hampshire are still getting hit pretty hard, but my parents should be free of the storm’s grip by this afternoon.  Stay safe, East Coast.

Here?  Upper 50s and lower 60s.  Ahh, Bay Area – you’ve always got weather going for you.

So much snow! I think it’s in the 30s here today. UGH

    • http://www.dqydj.net/ PK

My buddy asked me the other day if I’d move back – I said I’d start with a summer home on Cape Cod.

Today? I’m going to do yard work!

  • Joe

Thanks for the mention. We got buried in Ontario. We drove about 130 miles in that storm yesterday.

    • http://www.dqydj.net/ PK

      130? That’s nuts, haha.

We went back for New Years & Christmas and there was a storm that dumped almost a foot on RI. We didn’t go out the next day.

You can just call me Mochimac. :)

Thanks for the link back to the Investing Series. I am hoping it’ll start getting otherwise gun-shy people interested in making their money work for them!

    • http://www.dqydj.net/ PK

Yeah, I like your angle. I’m on your team too – I’ve been trying to bring cryptic information that you usually have to pay someone to parse for you to easy (enough) to use calculators and similar. This will be my legacy!

      • http://www.thebudgetingtool.com/ Mochi & Macarons

I love easy to use calculators! If you have more, even basic ones created in the future, let me know.

        • http://www.dqydj.net/ PK

Any requests? I’ve got like 20 or so in the archives (I think you saw the ‘Calculators and Visualizations’ page) but I’d love to expand the lineup a bit.

          • http://www.thebudgetingtool.com/ Mochi & Macarons

How about “when will i become a real millionaire”? inflation taken into account etc.

          • http://www.dqydj.net/ PK

If I do predict the future, it might look bad when I’m wrong and I run for President in 2024. Any suggestions? Perhaps go back in time and say “if I saved x, how long would it take to be a millionaire today?” Is that a cop-out, even though it’s hard to do? Haha.

          • http://www.thebudgetingtool.com/ Mochi & Macarons

            Something like this, http://monevator.com/earn-a-million-pounds/

But easier to read. His chart at the bottom half made me scratch my head before I understood it.

Or maybe a chart that only gives age, and interest rate, along with years to retirement, and then years after retirement.

Then you are able to play around with how much you save monthly to see what you’ll get at the end.

          • http://www.dqydj.net/ PK

Chart? Like sliderules and multiplication tables?

Please – if I do that to you please shun me. I’ll make you a calculator, but I think I have to release a tool where you can decide what a good long term return is, first (building on the Ramsey data).

          • http://www.thebudgetingtool.com/ Mochi & Macarons

NO! Better than that :) Taking into account long-term inflation as well.

          • http://www.dqydj.net/ PK

Okay, it’s all clear in my mind. Let me make the first calculator (“reasonable returns”), then I’ll do that one.

Wow, I’ve mixed feelings on all that snow. One part of me is glad I’m in North Carolina and not dealing with it. Another part of me misses a few feet of snow on the ground, getting out there with the kids and having a blast until you’re frozen beyond recognition and then coming in to a hot cup of cocoa or coffee is something to remember.

    • http://www.dqydj.net/ PK

Once I knew my family was okay (they had their bread and milk) my thoughts turned to the lawn work that I would be doing. With short sleeves.

Maybe one day I’ll move back, but I’m spoiled now.
